Entertainment Weekly Photo Studio and Lounge Sundance 2010
larry abel / de-signs, vb. was charged with creating a space for the Entertainment Weekly Photo Studio and Lounge for Sundance again in 2010. However, unlike past lounges, this year we needed to create a space where clients and celebrities alike could relax. Using a style we coined " Mid Century Mountain Chic" and used black and white acrylic , white washed wood and shapes very reminiscent of a mid century home in the desert top achieve this unique and relaxing respite in a space used the rest of the year as an art gallery on main street.
We created a free standing fireplace, using cut out white acrylic shapes against shiney black acrylic to represent the stones of a fireplace wall and anchored it with a realistic log fire effect.
Using the product of the beauty sponsor, L'oreal Paris, we made modern acrylic cocktail tables using their HIP eyeshadows as accents inside. In addition, all of the custom made all of the couches, chairs, tables and accessories came from our furniture line in our store ASI, Art Style Innovation located in Palm Springs, CA.
We created custom Touch Up Stations for L'Oreal Paris featuring their Studio Secrets Line. Giant Shadow boxes flanked the touch up stations and mirrored the make up mirror lights.
Up Stairs we continued the lounge feel with cocktail tables made from Entertainment Weekly Magazines, modern custom ASI, Art Style Innovation Chairs, white shag rugs and a retrospective of past photography mounted on whitewashed panels, covered in modern acrylic.
